Managing Everyday Stress: 7 Simple Techniques
By Khaleel Almomen · 4 min read
Some stress is a normal part of life. When it builds up, though, it can affect your sleep, mood and energy. These techniques are simple, free and easy to try.
7 techniques to try
1. Slow your breathing
Breathe in for four seconds and out for six, and repeat for a minute or two. A longer exhale helps your body settle.
2. Take a short walk
Even five to ten minutes outside can clear your head.
3. Write it down
List what is on your mind and pick one small next step for each item.
4. Break big tasks into small ones
A long to-do list feels heavy. Focus on the next step only.
5. Protect your sleep
Poor sleep makes stress feel worse. Keep regular hours and wind down in the evening.
6. Connect with someone
Talk to a friend or family member you trust. Sharing the load helps.
7. Set boundaries
It is fine to say no, switch off notifications and take real breaks.
Habits that support you
- Regular movement you enjoy.
- Balanced meals at regular times.
- Limiting caffeine late in the day.
- Time for hobbies and rest.
When to seek support
If stress feels overwhelming, lasts for weeks, or affects your work, relationships or sleep, please speak to a doctor or a mental health professional. If you ever feel unsafe or think about harming yourself, contact your local emergency number or a crisis line right away.
